THE EFFECT OF PARTNER READING STRATEGY IN TEACHING READING AT THE SECOND GRADE OF STKIP BINA BANGSA GETSEMPENA BANDA ACEH

ABSTRACT Delpiana, 2020. The Effect of Partner Reading Strategy in Teaching Reading at the Second Grade Students' of STKIP Bina Bangsa Getsempena Banda Aceh. Skripsi. Teacher Training and Educational College of STKIP Bina Bangsa Getsempena Banda Aceh. Advisor: (1) Sri Wahyuni, M.Pd., (2) Mulyani, M.Pd., M.TESOL This study was about the effect of Partner Reading strategy in teaching reading. The data conducted by using qualitative research with descriptive analysis. The writer limited the discussion by stated the followed problem: (1) How the lecturer implement partner reading strategy in teaching reading? (2) What are the students' responses toward using partner reading strategies in teaching reading? The aim of this study were: (1) To find out the learning process provided by lecturer in using partner reading strategy in teaching reading. (2) To identify the students' responses towards using partner reading strategy in teaching reading. The population of this study was the second grade students' of English Departement STKIP Bina Bangsa Getsempena Banda Aceh in academic year 2020. It consisted of 59 students in which 31 students from Class A and 28 students from Class B. In this study Class A to be chosen as the sample of research based on the early observation conducted by the researcher. The data needed are gotten by observing lecturer during teaching learning process, and distributing questionnaires to the students. The result of the observation shows that many observation sheet factors applied by the lecturer such as letting students choose their pairs, practice how to be a good partner. Then the teacher also pay attention during the learning process in class. It means the teaching process has a satisfactory category because it is in line with Meisinger et al in Melanie about procedure of using partner reading strategy. Besides, the students was also got the satisfying result from the lecturer by using partner reading strategy in teaching learning that was implemented in class, In which there were 23 students who got a range of 100-85 or A category. It means teaching reading by using partner reading strategy provides significant results on the student's learning process. However, for the questionnaire data, many students strongly agreed in the partner reading strategy section, which is about the benefits by using partner reading strategy that was able to encourage students' willingness to learn. Based on the result of the study, the teacher should applied partner reading strategy in teaching reading because it can improve students interested in learning reading.
