Abstract

Social media platforms have gained immense popularity, especially in the last ten years, and have become essential to human life. Among the popular social media platforms, millions of people use Instagram daily, especially young adults. Given the importance of this, social media platforms have also been used for educational purposes. Therefore, this study aims to analyze how Instagram can facilitate students' reading comprehension. The method used in this study is qualitative research designed to explore the impact of Instagram on the learning process in reading comprehension. Six students from the experimental group were also interviewed for their opinion about using Instagram during the practical part of the study. The data-collecting procedure is divided into three points; they are; (1) Observation and (2) interview guidelines. A qualitative analysis of the findings indicated that Instagram was the most frequently used social media platform by the participants, and they preferred to use it for educational and learning purposes in reading comprehension. In addition, it was found that Instagram positively impacted students' language learning based on their achievement scores. Thus, Instagram can enhance additional English learning for formal teaching by exposing students to the language when they use this platform daily. Keywords: Instagram, Reading Comprehension.
