AN ANALYSIS OF TEACHER STRATEGIES IN TEACHING VOCABULARY (A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY AT SMPN 4 BANDA ACEH)
Abstract
The purposes of this study are to figure out the teacher strategies in teaching vocabulary and to know what kinds of vocabulary taught by the teacher. The writer used descriptive qualitative research as the method in this study. The Observation and interview are used as the instrument. After analyzing the data, the writer found that 1. The strategies used by the teacher in teaching English skill at SMPN 4 Banda Aceh are Individual Learning, Contextual Teaching Learning, Problem Based Learning and Studegnts' Centered Approach. The teachers modify the strategies in teaching depends on the material. Morever, they connect them into the students' experience, prior knowledge and also the context of the students. The materials are developed by the teachers to motivate students in studying vocabulary at SMPN 4 Banda Aceh based on the syllabus and Lesson plan. It is suitable to the students' needed of SMPN 4 Banda Aceh. The material taught by the students in teaching vocabulary is verb, noun and adjective. The teachers taught them by applying it in teaching reading, speaking, writing and listening.
