Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions and teaching practice of mathematics education lecturers toward 21st century teaching and learning which include Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Creativity and Innovation, Communication, Collaboration Skills and Technology). The research was carried out using a survey involving 30 mathematics lecturers in Teacher Education and Training Universities throughout Indonesia which were taken through a convenient sampling technique through the distribution of online questionnaires. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive quantitative method using SPSS 20. The results showed that mathematics education lecturers had positive perceptions of 21st century skills and had attempted to implement 21st century skills-based teaching and learning. Although the frequency of implementation of activities which encouraged the realization of these skills still low. Data analysis also shows that learning practices that lead to the development of critical thinking skills and problem solving (2.48) and creativity and innovation (2.58) are classified as less frequent to be practiced by lecturers, while learning practices that develop skills in using technology (3.10) are classified as most frequent one. This indicates that the learning process conducted in tertiary institutions is still not fully leading to support the future mathematics teacher to the development of 21st century skills as opposed to today's global demands, which focus on to equip prospective teachers with 21st century skills.
