Abstract

The background of this research is that so far grade I SD students are faced with writing activities without the correct process. Students are asked to immediately write long sentences without considering the writing process according to the needs and development of students. This situation makes students lose motivation, boredom and experience various problems in writing, including slow writing, incorrect way of holding a pencil, stiff hands because they do not go through the process of stretching their hands and others. For this reason, it is necessary to study the needs of teachers and students in answering these problems. The purpose of this study was to analyze the need for developing student worksheets (LKS) in preliminary writing using a process approach for Class I students at SDN Kajhu Aceh Besar. This research uses a qualitative approach with qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of this study were 1 grade 1 teacher and 26 Class I SDN Kajhu Aceh Besar students. Data collection techniques in this study were observation and interviews. The results showed that: (1) There was no pre-written worksheets used in the pre-writing learning process at SDN Kajhu; (2) The teacher has never developed pre-written worksheets due to several things, namely: lack of knowledge of student worksheets development, no ideas to develop student worksheets and requires a relatively long time to develop worksheets; (3) Teachers need interesting worksheets to facilitate the learning process; (4) The teacher hopes that the developed worksheets will have good colors and layouts, so that they can motivate students to learn; (5) The teacher hopes that the developed worksheets are expected to help students in independent learning during the Covid 19 pandemic; (6) 41.3% of students had difficulty writing at the beginning; (7) Beginning writing is a skill that must be mastered by students in the K-13 curriculum. Thus it can be concluded that pre-writing worksheets with a process approach are needed by class I teachers and students of SDN Kajhu Aceh Besar as pre-writing teaching materials.
