Abstract
Literacy has a broad meaning and the literacy coverage is also quite wide. Literacy relates to four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. With these four provisions one is required to be able to apply critical thinking patterns and be able to communicate effectively and efficiently until later useful in solving problems in life. This research aims to find out students' perceptions of literacy activities. This research is a qualitative study with a descriptive approach. Data is collected through structured interview techniques and questionnaire collection techniques. The instruments used are interview guidelines and questionnaire sheets. The interview was conducted with 2 Indonesian teachers at SMP Banda Aceh junior high school and the questionnaire was filled with 163 students. The results showed that in its implementation, literacy was not governed by the established rules. The goal of literacy is also not achieved properly. The school has not fully carried out literacy activities such as demands in the implementation of the School Literacy Movement that has been established by the government. Students' perception of literacy activities rests only on one point, namely reading and writing. Whereas based on the sense of literacy, literacy has a broad meaning and literacy activities can vary, not only literacy reading and writing, but also numeration literacy, science literacy, financial literacy, digital, cultural and environmental literacy. But at this stage the school is good enough in starting the implementation stage of the School Literacy Movement in their respective schools. Schools are aware enough of how important this literacy activity is to start promoting in the school environment in order to support government programs to create a generation of literate nations in all fields.
