Abstract

This study is about the implementation of Contextual Teaching and Learning in teaching speaking for English Department students of STKIP Bina Bangsa Getsempena Banda Aceh. This research was quasi experimental study. The aim of the study was to find out students' improvement in speaking ability by using Contextual Teaching and Learning. The population of this study was the whole students of English Department of STKIP Bina Bangsa Getsempena Banda Aceh in academic year 2015/2016. Students in second semester chosen as the experimental group based on the early observation conducted by the writer that consisted of 17 students. The data needed are taken distributing speaking test to the students. The data was analysed by using t-test. The result of the study is shown that the t-score was 5,2 the critical value of the t-score for degree of freedom of samples was 2,12 at the level of significance 0,05. The result showed that calculation of the score 5,2 was greater than t-table 2,12, thus the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted which means that the use of Contextual Teaching and Learning to improves students' speaking ability. It means that the students in the forth semester at English Department of STKIP Bina Bangsa Getsempena Banda Aceh who are taught speaking ability by using Contextual Teaching and Learning there was an improvement than the student who is taught without Contextual Teaching and Learning.
