THE APPLICATION OF SKIMMING STRATEGY TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' READING COMPREHENSION SKILL

Abstract
Reading comprehension is one of process in which the reader has to decide linguistics symbol and reconstruct them up to meaningful whole intended by the researcher. This research entitle is the application of skimming strategy to improve students' reading comprehension of second semester students' At STKIP Bina Bangsa Getsempena Banda Aceh the research problem is ‘‘does the use of skimming strategy can improve reading comprehension skill''. This research focused on improving reading comprehension by using skimming strategy it was quasi experiment design. This subject students second semester English department which consisted of 28 students. The instrument used collect the data was reading comprehension test pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using mean score and standard deviation and T-test. The analyzed showed by post-test were significant higher than pre-test score and t-test formula was 8,16 maenwhile t-table 6,31. The finding indicated that using skimming strategy can improve reading comprehension skill and teacher English to use skimming strategy in improve students reading comprehension.
