TEACHING SPEAKING BY USING AUDIO VISUAL MEDIA (AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY TO THE FIRST YEAR STUDENTS AT SMAN 12 BANDA ACEH)
Abstract
Speaking is one of difficult skills in English. The problem of the language learners in speaking because they lack of vocabulary, therefore students are hard to improve their speaking. The purpose of this study is to know whether audio visual improve the students' speaking skill. The method used in this study was experiment quantitative research. The population of this study was the second year students of SMAN 12 Banda Aceh of 30 students. The data is analyzed by using t-score formula. The result shown t-score (2.39) is higher than t-table (2.045). It means that the hypothesis alternative which is stated that the use of audio visuals can increase the students' speaking skill can be accepted well. Meanwhile, the hypothesis null which is stated that the use of audio visuals can not increase the students' speaking skill was rejected. After the use of audio visual implemented in this research, it is concluded that using audio visual in teaching speaking has some strengths. First, audio visual improves the students' ability of the second year students of SMAN 12 Banda Aceh. Second, the use of audio visual creates more enjoyable learning process. They can apply their ability in speaking while watching the video. It stimulated them students speak as good as possible related to the video. Therefore, the writer concluded the use of audio visual is an effective way to improve the students' ability in speaking.
