Abstract

This study aims to find out the significance of the use of video in improving students' speaking ability in English which was tested in class XI at SMAN 1 Baitussalam in the academic year 2020/2021. Researchers compiled learning materials in the form of videos sourced from the youtube application. The material designed in this study is about suggestions and offers according to the 2017 Revised Edition of the English printed book used in class XI. The purpose of this research is to focus on analyzing students' speaking ability in terms of pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and understanding by using video. This research method is an experimental method of one class pre-test and post-test. The subjects of this study used a simple random sampling technique in class XI IPS-2 which opened 16 students. The research instrument was collected using an oral test. There are two types of tests carried out, namely the initial test (pre-test) where students are given 4 short conversatio texts and choose one of the conversation texts as material for students' practice with their interlocutor. Next, there is a final test (post-test) where students are given 2 conversation texts which are slightly longer and practiced according to what students did at the time of the pre-test. Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test found t-observation -…. apart from the minus by not showing a negative score using 0.05 as a significant level with a degree of frequency 19 (df = 20 – 1 = 19), then the t-table is obtained…. From the average pre-test score of 43.4 and post-test … So the result is … showing that using video has a significant effect in improving students' English speaking skills on the subject matter about asuggestions and offers.
