THE INFLUENCE OF EXTENSIVE READING APPROACH ON STUDENTS' READING COMPREHENSION ( A QUASI EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH AT FIRST GRADE IPS 1 STUDENTS OF SMAN 4 BANDA ACEH IN ACADEMIC YEARS 2020/2021)
Abstract
This study is about the influence of an extensive reading approach on students' reading comprehension at SMAN 4 Banda Aceh. The objective of study was to know how students' ability of understanding the extensive reading approach method, and to find out the students' influence on learning by using an extensive reading approach method on students' reading comprehension. This research was conducted by using quantitative research, the population of this study were students of class X IPS1 SMA 4 Banda Aceh, which consisted of 29 students. Data collection was carried out using observation and tests. Observation was made by storing activities in the classroom during the teaching and learning process, from the test data analyzed with statistical procedures to see if there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results. The findings of this study revealed that the mean score of pre-test was 77.93, while the mean score of post-test was 86.89. The result of the t-test was 5 and the t-table was 2.05. It showed that t-test was higher than t-table (5 ≥ 2.05). So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. This can improve students' reading skills. Based on the research result, students were expected to get used to reading, not only in the classroom but also outside the classroom.
